April 15 marked the final installment of Almanac, the Central Hudson radio program that offered listeners facts and stories about science, the natural world and more since 1959. The conclusion of Almanac corresponds with the retirement of Central Hudson Director of Corporate Communications Paul Tesoro (pictured), who hosted the show since 1987.

Central Hudson plans to replace more than 13 miles of gas mains and services in 2016 to improve safety and reliability. Lines made of cast iron and steel, most installed in the 1930s or earlier, are being replaced with polyethylene, which is highly durable and less susceptible to environmental conditions. Plans to replace gas mains on this accelerated basis will continue through 2019, and potentially later.

More than 70 solar industry professionals and state energy officials recently attended our 6th annual Solar Summit. The event suppports solar energy advancement in the Hudson Valley. As of March, more than 5,100 solary energy systems have been installed in Central Hudson’s service area with a capacity to offset about 26,400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
