Central Hudson Billing Promotion Plants 1,000 Trees
More than 1,000 trees were planted on behalf of customers of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation who switched to electronic billing as part of a special initiative in 2008. Central Hudson made a contribution to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree in the name of each customer enrolling in the electronic eBills payment program, during a three-month promotion. “The promotion offered a special incentive to enroll in our automated, paperless billing program to not only save paper and postage, but to also plant a tree to help maintain the health of forests and protect the environment,” said Denise D. VanBuren, Vice President of Public Affairs and Energy Efficiency. The Arbor Day Foundation used the contributions to plant 1,094 trees in forests impacted by wildfires, disease and insects. “Central Hudson’s efforts to reduce paper usage while planting trees in our nation’s forests show a true commitment to a creating a healthier, greener plant,” said John Rosenow, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Our eBills electronic billing option is certainly a convenient and economical way to pay bills, and the program offers environmental benefits as well,” said VanBuren. “Partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees was a great way to involve our customers in providing a meaningful and lasting measure in helping to restore endangered forests,” said she said. “Interest in the program was high, and this special incentive was a great way to remind our customers of the ways in which they can save resources, energy, time and money.” For more information on the Arbor Day Foundation, log onto www.ArborDay.org.
