Power Restoration Continues, Remaining Outages Primarily in Northern Dutchess
|
|
About 1,400 customers of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. remain without power late afternoon on Tuesday, as crews continue working to restore electric service following the devastating ice storm that struck the region on Thursday and Friday. More than 75,000 customers were impacted since the beginning of the storm, with crews restoring power to more than 70,000 customers since Thursday night. The majority of remaining customer outages, more than 1,200, is in northern Dutchess County, primarily in the towns of Milan and Rhinebeck. Customer outages also remain in other nearby communities. Many of the remaining residents will have electric service restored tonight, however full repairs are expected to continue into Wednesday and possibly Thursday as crews work in severely damaged areas to clear downed trees, replace poles and repair lines. Weather forecasts predict mixed precipitation over the next few days, which may, depending on the severity, hinder restoration efforts. Crews from Jersey Central Power & Light and Con Edison, together with contract line and tree service crews, are assisting Central Hudson in restoring electric service. Customers who have not reported their power outage should do so by calling Central Hudson’s automated PowerLine at (845) 452-2700 or 1-800-527-2714. Customers are also reminded to stay away from downed power lines, which may be energized and dangerous, and to place generators outdoors, in well-ventilated areas.
