Central Hudson Advises: Play it Safe with Swimming Pools Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation reminds its customers who may own or plan to build a swimming pool to play it safe by ensuring they are installed and maintained by a professional, licensed electrician. “Water and electricity don’t mix, and it is important that swimming pool motors and filters are properly grounded to prevent electric shock,” said James P. Laurito, President of Central Hudson. “If someone using the pool experiences a tingling sensation, then be sure to immediately contact a qualified electrician to investigate the cause.” The pool owner or their electrician should contact Central Hudson if no equipment and/or wiring issues are found throughout the owner’s property. Residents are also reminded never to build a swimming pool, shed or any other structure beneath a power line or anywhere on a utility right-of-way, including the line that leads to your home or building. Unlicensed structures beneath electric lines may pose a hazard, and the area must remain clear so that utility workers can maintain these lines as needed.
