Community to Work Program Pairs Interns with Central Hudson Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation debuted its “Community to Work” program this year, providing summer internships to qualified individuals from urban communities who hope to gain valuable work experience while building a relationship with Central Hudson. Six interns were hired through a job fair held by the utility at the Catherine Street Community Center in the City of Poughkeepsie in June, and will work full-time on a temporary basis until Sept. 3. Participants are recent high school graduates or enrolled in a GED, certificate or associates degree program. “The Community to Work program offers qualified individuals an opportunity to develop their job skills and gain valuable work experience,” said Thomas Brocks, Vice President of Human Resources. “By the end of their internship, it is our hope that participants will be better prepared to enter the job market.” The Community to Work interns were assigned positions in a variety of functions, including customer services, facilities, construction maintenance and office support services. “Employees at Central Hudson perform a diverse mix of job functions, and the interns are exposed to numerous career possibilities. Participants may find an interest in a particular field, which may lead to further education or other job opportunities following the internship,” said Brocks.“This is the first year Central Hudson offered the Community to Work program, and we’re pleased with the response,” said Brocks. “The interns are performing valuable functions for Central Hudson, and gaining experience that may lead to future opportunities. We view this as a win for everyone.” For more information on employment at Central Hudson, visit www.CentralHudson.com and click on the Employment tab.
